Senior Director / Director Health Economics and Outcomes Research

Position Summary:

The Senior Director / Director Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) develops, implements and manages strategies and tactics to demonstrate the value of the company pipeline and products to support internal decision making and external payer/real-world evidence (RWE)/HTA requirements. In addition, the individual serves as a member of the Medical Affairs Leadership Team.

Essential Functions:

  • Directs strategic, HEOR input into product level plans of various company stakeholders
  • Develop HEOR work plans that support reimbursement and market access strategies and support new product development
  • Provides strategic, HEOR input (clinical, economic, patient-reported outcomes) when establishing endpoints for company Phase II/III/IV clinical trials
  • Leads the strategic development of research partnerships with customers, research organizations, academic research institutions, and other HEOR thought leaders to optimize the impact of our HEOR research
  • Directs activities that could include cost-of-illness evaluations, economic evaluations in clinical trials, cost-effectiveness and cost utility studies, naturalistic prospective evaluations, retrospective database analyses, patient/disease registries, patient-reported outcomes, and decision-analytic modeling
  • Manages study quality, resources, project plan, vendors and writing/editing scientific content to ensure all deliverables, including proposals, statistical analysis plans, results, final reports and publications meet the highest level of scientific quality standard
  • Develops HEOR communications (e.g., abstracts, manuscripts, conference presentations, slide decks) and builds the peer-reviewed published evidence supporting value propositions
  • Supports the development of product dossiers (Core Value and AMCP)
  • Develop and manage team members, including hiring, talent management, succession planning and performance management.
  • Ensure training and development of team members, and work to identify and provide formal and informal training for other stakeholders for other stakeholders regarding HEOR
  • Forecast and propose resource allocation plans as well as manage resources within budget.
  • Establish collaborative working relationships with functions outside of MA including, but not limited to: Clinical Development; Regulatory Affairs; Portfolio & Project Management; Finance; HR; Legal; Drug Safety; and Commercial to optimize the financial, technical, compliance, and strategic management of key functional areas.

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum 8-12 years of relevant experience with an emphasis on the pharmaceutical industry and/or managed care experience, and 6+ years of experience in health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) including budgetary impact, cost-effectiveness, cost-utility analyses, prospective studies, and claims database analysis (burden and cost of disease)
  • Must be proficient in Health Technology Assessment (HTA), submission strategies, and creation of corresponding high impact payer tools, (e.g., dossiers and economic models)

Preferred Education:

  • Advanced degree such as PhD, PharmD, MD, MS, MPH with some combination of advanced training in Health Economics, Outcomes Research, Pharmacoeconomics, Epidemiology, Econometrics, Public Health, and Health Policy
